History

Fred Fredrickson, a Maine logger, forgot to buy gas in late September, 1934. Stranded in the woods for the better part of the winter, he coaxed his pet chicken into providing enough eggs to allow the pair of them to survive.

After his rescue, Mr. Fredrickson left the logging business and started a diner, which failed two weeks later.
