Letterform sketchbook

Working in a sketchbook, design sets of two or three letters each week, so that you have created all 26 letters of the English alphabet.

You can create the letters in- or out- of alphabetical order, and you may mix uppercase and lowercase forms.

Consider the space between each pair or triplet, because the amount of space (sidebearing or letterspacing) is part of your design.

Experiment with different methods of making letterforms, like drawing, photographing, or painting. All of your designs must exist on pages in your sketchbook. You will be evaluated on craft, concept, attention to detail, and the depth of your study.

At the end of the semester, turn in a PDF of your sketchbook pages.

This project builds on an assignment by Elizabeth Resnick at MassArt.
